Howe Sound Dental Group

Little bit about me – I grew up in Vancouver, Richmond and North Vancouver. I attended UBC for both my undergrad and dentistry, graduating in 2011. I moved to North Vancouver in 2013 and have been raising our family of five in Lynn Valley ever since.

My philosophy as a dentist is to treat all the patients the same way I’d treat my own family. Provide the most comprehensive and patient centered care that keeps the patient involved in the decision-making process. Communication is key and I truly believe that the use of technology and imagery helps bring you the patient into the fold when it comes to treatment planning.

My special interest is in dental implants and grafting. I still enjoy other aspects of general dentistry though.

Dr. Spurr completed a B.Sc. Microbiology and a M.Sc. Molecular Biology from UBC, during the years 1973-1979. He obtained his Dental Degree from the University of Toronto. He has been practicing general dentistry since graduating in 1983, encompassing all aspects of dentistry, including sedation, implants, major restorative, and wisdom teeth extractions. Dr Spurr practiced in Alberta for the first 16 years of his career, before returning to BC to practice with his long time friends, Drs. Peter Kearney (high school friend), Katrin Turu, and Clive Jones. After the change of ownership at West Van Dental Group and the untimely retirement of their partner Dr. Clive Jones, Drs. Kearney, Turu, and Spurr decided that it was time to join forces with some “like minded” young dentists and make the move to their new “Dental Home” with Howe Sound Dental Group, in Lynn Valley. Dr. Spurr looks forward, with great excitement to working with both new and old partners.

Dr. Kearney grew up in West Van attending Westcot and Sentinel before going to UBC for biochemistry. He graduated with a DDS from the University of Toronto in 1979 and came back to Vancouver. Dr. Kearney and Dr. Katrin Turu started the West Van Dental Group together in 1983 . They were joined by Dr. Clive Jones and Dr. Mark Spurr. After many great years at WVDG it was time to reconnect with many of our former team in an updated location in Lynn Valley.

Dr. Trevor Shen was born in Vancouver and raised in Coquitlam, BC. After attending the University of British Columbia for his undergraduate degree, he was accepted into the Doctor of Dental Medicine after only three years. While studying at The University of British Columbia, he was honoured to receive the Academy of Operative Dentistry Prize during his graduating year. Outside of the office, he enjoys a variety of sports, both as an athlete and as a fan of basketball and hockey. Dr. Shen also enjoys all the outdoor activities the Lower Mainland has to offer, including golf, a favourite pastime shared with his father, Dr. Allen Shen.

Dr. Andrew Gee, born and raised in East Vancouver, discovered his passion for dentistry while volunteering at a local non-profit community dental clinic during his undergraduate studies. After graduating with distinction with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology, Dr. Gee’s commitment to helping others led him to pursue the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia. His journey continued at UBC’s dental school, where he excelled and developed a keen interest in surgical and cosmetic dentistry. His dedication and skill were recognized through numerous awards and scholarships in restorative, prosthodontic, periodontic, and preventative dentistry.

Committed to providing exceptional dental care, Dr. Gee believes in delivering effective and efficient treatments tailored to each patient’s unique needs and continues to advance his skill through ongoing education. He is dedicated to creating a comforting and caring environment, ensuring every patient feels safe and valued. When he’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. Gee enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, honing his culinary skills, and has recently taken up playing pickleball.
